How to use your telephone
Local calls: From your room, dial 9 + the 7-digit
number you would like to call. Long-distance calls: Calls may not be billed to your room. Long-distance calls must be made collect or with a calling card. To place a collect call, dial 9 + 0 + the area code and number.

  • To access AT&T, dial 9 + 0 + the number.
  • To access Sprint, dial 9 + 1010333 + 0.
  • To access MCI, dial 9 + 1010222 + 0.
  • For all other carriers, check your calling card.

Directory assistance
There is a charge for directory assistance, including local directory assistance. For local directory assistance, dial 0. The hospital operator will look up the number for you. Long-distance directory assistance must be placed on a calling card.

Receiving calls
Phone calls for you will be transferred to your room by the hospital operator, or the caller may call your room directly by using the phone number that appears on the board at the head of your bed. Between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., all calls will be sent to your nurses station first. If you are in an intensive care unit, all calls will be sent to your nursing station and they will forward to your room as appropriate.

Communication aids for the hearing impaired
TDDs (telephone aids) are available for hearing-impaired patients, and TTYs (teletypewriters) are available for deaf patients. Sign language interpreters also are available. To arrange for these services, please contact your nurse.

Language interpreters
Interpreters are available to help patients and families who do not understand English. Please let your nurse know if you need an interpreter.
